Currently lighting my fire

The shiny object currently dancing in my head is Amazon's Kindle. It's the iPhone of reading! It looks easy to use, you have instant access to books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs, apparently has a long battery life, and it's super small and light. Oh yeah, access to a dictionary and wikipedia to boot! I don't have to make up my own definitions any more!

I've been watching the videos on Amazon, listening to Leo Laporte discuss it on each and every one of his podcasts, and now my boss is even getting one! I wonder what file formats you can read on it. For example, I'm a big fan of Project Gutenberg and would want to read those on the Kindle - could I? What about pdf files sent out by podcasts or classes? Do I have to pay the fee and email them to the kindle, or could I load them on an SD card and boot it up? Can you view any blog you want, or just the ones who have agreements with Amazon?

I look forward to hearing/reading some reviews after the next batch comes out. Maybe I will have the funds at that time! My questions aside, I still want one!

  1. I have no idea what you're talking about here, but why didn't you tell me you started a "Shiny" blog?! What a great idea for you!

By the way, I love how you now have 4 blogs listed on your blogger profile. Hilarious...You should just start a single aggregate blog called "Shiny, Distraction, Shiny!"

  2. Hey Linds, I didn't realize this is where you left the comment you mentioned. As you can see, I have one useful entry, and it's quite old. I like the aggregate idea. You and one of my favorite podcasters have inspired me to start blogging again! Now to pick a topic for my next post...
